Sweet Melissa's Strawberry Shortcakes

I am so excited to share my first recipe from the Sweet Melissa Baking Group.
This weeks dessert was picked by Wendy at Pink Stripes. She chose the Strawberry Shortcake recipe on page 130. At her site she made it four ways and they all look delicious. You can find the recipe there too.
The first thing you do to make this recipe special is add lemon zest to the shortcakes,
it just gives it a little special punch.
My girls thought they tasted like sugar cookies they were soooooo good.
You add sugar to the berries And let them set for 20 minutes while your shortcakes are baking.

Then make real whipped cream.
I can honestly say I have never made real whipped cream before
and was temped to try a light version. My mom suggested I use the real deal
and it was delicious. The one thing she suggested is to put my glass bowl in the freezer to chill before I started the whipping process. It worked perfect!

They were delicious and very simple to make.

25 minutes to bake the shortcakes,
20 minutes to let the berries macerate,
and 5-10 minutes to make the whipped topping.

There you have it an elegant, delicious dessert that even I could make.

That look fabulous! My daughter's MIL makes it for special occasions and they eat a HUGE portion and call it their meal! I can see why. Linda
